Come to my presentation: What I Learned at Straight Camp

November 14, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I will give a presentation about my undercover adventures in Christian gay-to-straight programs. Since I’m a lazy bastard here’s a copy-n-paste from the Facebook event page:

Starting in 2007 I went undercover in Christian gay-to-straight therapy programs. This presentation will expose all the wild and weird times I had posing as a gay man trying to become straight — including 48 hours in a “holding touch therapy” camp.

The presentation will include video, music and audience participation. And I’ll need six male volunteers to help with dramatic reenactments.

SCC Monthly Meetup

Hey fellow crafters! I just thought I'd propose a different place to have our monthly meetup for December. I thought the new Temple located at 2829 S Street would provide ample table space and a lovely atmosphere for talkin' and workin' on crafts. Any thoughts?

What I am envisoning is something more causal that isn't restricted to etsy folks. I figure the more of us who know each other, the more information about random craft stuff can be shared. I figured a monthly meetup would help faciliate that.Hopefully making this process more interative will make the next meet up a success!

Another Craft Faire Opportunity

Hello, my name is Kendra Lamboy. I am the Director of Women's Ministry for our church. We will be hosting a Christmas boutique to support women in business. We need vendors who would like to sell their products. There is a 25.00 booth fee. We will provide a space, table and advertisement for the event. We will be passing out over 2000 postcards. The event will run for 2 days on November 21 and November 22. We will do Saturday from 9-4 and Sunday right before 9-10 church and immediately following the service until 12:00-3:00. We thought that having it Sunday would provide vendors to sell church members (especially husbands) who might not be able to make it Saturday. We have space for 5 more vendors.

If you are interested please contact me ASAP at young2@surewest.net

December Craft Faire on the cheap!

Hey there crafters! I manage the SactoMetro Etsy Street Team, a group of about 20 etsians in the greater Sacramento area (SactoMetro-Team.Blogspot.com). I was able to work with a local elementary school in North Natomas to organize a craft faire for Saturday, December 5th. Booth fees will be $25, and the school will provide tables and chairs.

They will also open up on Friday night to let us set up, provide volunteers to help if needed, and advertise it to all of the parents of the students in the takehome materials since the booth fees are a fundraiser for the PTA. The school will be providing final details (booth size, total number of booths available, PayPal payment information) to me soon, and I'll post them as I receive them.

This school is a great location as it's in a residential area with lots of homeowners, is next to 2 dog parks with lots of daily visitors, and is close to Elkhorn/Highway 5/99 as well as 80. I expect a good turnout and even I can afford $25. :)

Nice to "meet" everyone!

First meet up

Hello Ladies!

I suggest that the first collective meeting take place on Sunday, October 4th @ the Peet's Coffee on 37th and J. I'll be showing up around 2pm. I'm not sure how big it is in there... if its too small, we could always move it down to the bonn laire :).
I'm not expecting a huge crowd so I doubt that will be needed.

Bring yourselves and a portable project. This will hopefully be a good opportunity to meet new crafters and make new friends!

I'll be ecstatic if more than two people show up!

Let's do this!

And here is September's first treasury! Enjoy!

Witchapalooza

I just received an email that highlighted a great event coming up in early October. Its called Witchapalooza and this festival looks so fun and amazing! They anticipate having over 300 vendors and are heavily promoting this event. The festival will be running October 10-11 at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds in Sacramento.

Is there anyone here who would be interested in sharing a booth/space/table with me? I mostly make children's clothing. Thanks!

Change in plans

Hello everyone.... life has been kicking my ass. As such, I haven't had time to even think about a place to meet. Also, Mondays are out. Is anyone opposed to doing an afternoon thing on the weekend? Perhaps on sunday? Holla at yo' girl!

Insurance is extra. For more information, contact Annie Stuckert, events manager, at 916.442.8575 or astuckert@downtownsac.org.

More info on the I HEART ART event:

From Annie

Thank you for your interest in becoming a vendor at “I HEART ART.”
Starting Thursday, August 6, the Downtown Sacramento Partnership will be hosting local artists and crafters in Cesar Chavez Plaza every Thursday from 10am – 2pm. Space is available on a first come first serve basis in Cesar Chavez Plaza. Set-up begins at 8am and breakdown begins at 2pm. Tables, chairs and tents will not be provided by the Downtown Sacramento Partnership.
To become an “I HEART ART” vendor you must complete the attached application and submit the application along with all necessary submittals (payment, a copy of your sellers permit and a copy of a certificate of insurance for $1,000,000.00 with the Downtown Sacramento Partnership named as additionally insured) to me either by fax, email or in person the Wednesday before you plan to participate.

If you need help in obtaining liability insurance you can apply through a special program with the Downtown Sacramento Partnership’s insurance provider. Please see the attached information sheet and application. If you are interested in this program please fill out the ENTIRE insurance application and send it back to me ASAP. I will then send it to our provider and they will contact you and help you through the process. The insurance that you will receive through this program is good for an entire year and can be used at any event.

Thank you again for your interest in “ I HEART ART.” We are extremely excited about having crafters and artists in Cesar Chavez Plaza every Thursday. It is a wonderful location full of shade and tons of foot traffic from surrounding businesses. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.

Changes....

So I decided to change how I was going to use the Sacramento Craft Collective.

1. The etsy account will no longer be used for selling my stuff. It will be used for creating treasuries of craft made by people in Sacramento. I'll set up a new etsy for myself.

2. I want to start a monthly meet up, much like the Sac Craft Mafia had but not so much about the business stuff. It's more about making the contacts so that ideas and information can be exchanged.

3. Suggestions: Where would be a good place and what would be a good day/time?

4. This Blog- It won't belong to one person. I'd like to be able to get contributors who want to share some info about craft fairs, meet ups and other craft minded topics. I'd love for this blog to become the sort of a giant bulletin board for crafty happenings in Sac. ( A lofty goal, I know.)

Want to be contributor, lemme know!

Glitter and Grunge/Lollishops Design Team Call for Artists

Glitter and Grunge and Lollishops are thrilled to annouce that we will be taking applications for our very first DESIGN TEAM! Are you an artist? Do you make amazing things from vintage or upcycled materials and are you looking for some new challenges? Look no further! You do not have to be a member of either site to apply, so don't hesitate!

:::::The Details:::::

1. LolliShops.com and Glitter & Grunge Design Team is a 3 month term. Every month, for three months, Five Design Team Members will be sent a special Inspiration Kit in the mail. The Design Team Members then have that month to come up with a project, make it, photograph it and then post it on their blog on the first of each month. The team members can also sell it in their LolliShop/Glitter & Grunge shop or have a giveaway on their blog.

**YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A VENDOR ON EITHER VENUE TO APPLY, UNLESS YOU WANT TO SELL YOUR CREATIONS, THEN YOU'LL HAVE TO OPEN A SHOP**

2. LS and GG will then post all the Team Members' projects on the official blogs with the pictures and links to the team members' blogs and shops. 3. The purpose of Design Team is to generate a sense of community spirit and excitement. It is a cross promotional tool used for the marketplace to support and promote individual artists and for the artists to support the marketplace. It is a way to set our niche marketplaces apart from other selling venues. It is our desire to showcase the unique talents and abilities of the vendors that call Glitter and Grunge and LolliShops.com home. Not only are they great places to shop, but also places to learn new ideas.
